Alumni Highlights Summer 2025

Sam Shelton (MPA 2024)

Sam Shelton being sworn in

Sam Shelton (MPA 2024) was recently named Assistant to the City Manager in the City of Bellevue, Kentucky, which seems like a perfect fit. Sam calls himself "a believer in building walkable communities, shopping local, and supporting community organizations to better enhance our towns"听... and Bellevue offers all that and more. Cheers to all involved!

Sam has worked for the City of Fort Thomas, Kentucky for nearly seven years, while he earned his MPA. During his time in Fort Thomas, his efforts have focused on economic development, community events, and communications. "I look forward to bringing a lot of the knowledge that I have gained from there, along with my master鈥檚 in public administration from 无码专区, to the city of Bellevue,鈥澨齢e said. . Chris Moriconi (MPA 2018) & Josh Bornhorn (MPA 2024)

The City of Independence, Kentucky is moving forward with plans to build a splash pad, even though the estimated cost has increased during the past year or so. Two MPA alums have been involved in the splash pad project: 1) Chris Moriconi (2018), City Administrator of Independence; and 2) Josh Bornhorn (2024), who helped develop a grant听application as his Capstone project in Fall 2024.

The increased cost of the splash pad 鈥 which is up to $1.1 million 鈥 is largely due to a new location in Memorial Park, which will require ground leveling and retaining walls. City leaders are hoping that these construction expenses will be mostly offset by grant funding and/or business sponsorships. .

Kathleen Kennedy (MPA 2017)

This Soapbox Cincinnati article digs into Springfield Township's efforts to revitalize its "downtown," which is the Winton Road corridor. "We've put a lot of investment into that corridor 鈥 time, money and energy 鈥 to make it look a lot different than it did 20 or 30 years ago,鈥 said Assistant Township Administrator Kathleen Kennedy (MPA 2017). 鈥淭he look and feel of a community is what a lot of people are going by when they first look for new locations for听their businesses."

In addition, the article describes how Springfield Township helped convert a gathering place from the 1960s-1990s into a gathering place for the 2020s and beyond. The township bought the old Brentwood Bowl building 鈥 which had听 been a very popular bowling alley for decades until the COVID pandemic 鈥 and then transferred it to HighGrain Brewing Co. In May 2024, this local brewery opened its second location at the Brentwood building, and its dining area and event space have become wildly popular. .
